The OS/COMET® FA/Tool provides a rule-based fault automation capability and an easy to use fault detection and resolution system. Fault processing behavior can be defined by operators and engineers in a simple "faults file" as they are discovered and understood. Resolutions can then be defined as automated procedures (scripts) and can range from simple messages to invoking a complex recovery procedure. Faults may be:

Telemetry alarm conditions
System, ops, or user event
Start-up or shut-down of an OS/COMET® application program

Operations personnel can use FA/Tool to monitor and control the system operations, ground hardware, and flight hardware according to pre-planned automated procedures, and manual procedures as necessary. FA/Tool processes may be spread across all of the nodes of a network which allows both for the distribution of fault handling, and for the organization of related fault management activities.
