Avionics Infrastructure Packaging Harris provides services to aircraft prime contractors to control the design and development of avionics components in a common optimized infrastructure, offering significant risk reduction and development and production savings. This design control effort ensures that each of the vendors contributing to an aircraft system produces standardized modules that can be easily integrated. As Infrastructure Components Evolution Manager, Harris provides a single point of management for the design and manufacture of all avionics and electronics racks, module mechanical components, common power supplies, and common fiber-optic physical layer components (PLC) of an aircraft system. Harris infrastructure components are key to achieving avionics affordability, technology refreshment and commercial parts use. The infrastructure system provides an integrated mechanical design that: - Enables automated control of tolerance across all of the systems
- Provides significant economies of scale through use of common components
- Implements a team-wide virtual prototype process whereby each Technology Partner shares common solid-model CAD data
Racks/Module Infrastructure Components Technical Approach Harris has implemented a single point tolerance management concept that leverages parametric CAD technology and enables virtual integration of modules into racks, and racks into airframes.
