Digital Maps Building upon nearly 30 years of experience, Harris is the world leader in advanced digital moving map technology. Harris develops feature-rich digital maps, providing advanced situational awareness for the most demanding conditions faced by military flight crews. The digital maps developed by Harris encompass the lessons learned over the past three decades, allowing Harris to set new standards in the digital map field. Harris’ digital maps are ideal for real time in the cockpit (RTIC) display of mission critical data. Our maps currently serve flight crews in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, as well as Army and Air Force Special Operations Forces in helicopters, tactical fighters, and transport aircraft. Increased mission effectiveness and survivability arise from improved situational awareness, reduced crew workload and enhanced capability for precision navigation, targeting, and obstacle avoidance. Harris is committed to creating next generation digital maps for the changing needs of today’s military branches. FliteScene™ provides the superior functionality Harris maps are known for in a software application that is the most flexible product. FliteScene™ is designed to operate in general-purpose, reconfigurable graphics hardware and to be hosted on a variety of airborne avionics systems. FliteScene™ has many features that coordinate with military mission planning systems such as PFPS and JMPS. FliteScene™ reads standard NGA map data, as well as theater or mission specific data from mission planning systems. FliteScene’s™ forward-looking map capabilities that enhance mission effectiveness include presentation of contour lines, slope shading, dynamic elevation banding, threat intervisibility, variable scaling, and symbology overlays. FliteScene™ reads and loads digital maps and image data from an external mass storage device and receives commands from external subsystems. FliteScene™ has been combat proven on the AH-64D Longbow Apache and MG-47G Chinook helicopters and was recently chosen to be the US Army’s standard airborne Digital Map. It will be used on the AH-64D Longbow Apache, UH-60M Blackhawk, CH-47F Chinook, and ARH by the Army; the MH-47G, MH-60M, and AH/MH-6 by Army Special Operations Forces; the CH-53E and CH-53K by the USMC; on C-130 AMP by the Air Force and Air Force Special Operations; and on the HH-60 by the Coast Guard. FliteScene™ can be paired with Harris’s COTS Graphics Processor card to provide exceptional digital map performance. Harris’s COTS Graphics Processor card is VME-compatible, allowing it to be embeddable with host avionics. It is designed to provide high-performance graphics capabilities via the use of a P10 graphics processor. It provides two separate Gigabit Ethernet ports that an application, such as FliteScene™, may use for command/control and file data transfer. Harris’ COTS Graphics Processor card also provides two independent video ports that each provide both DVI and analog RGB outputs. The TAMMAC DMC (Tactical Aircraft Moving MAp Capability Digital Map Computer) is a system-level solution that offers the highest overall performance. In addition to the feature-rich software and high-performance graphics accelerator, it bundles in mass storage and processing speed to provide the aircrew with an easily assimilated graphical presentation of the aircraft’s present position and the relative positions of targets, threats, terrain features, planned mission flight path, no fly zones, safe bases, and other objects. Its advanced map capabilities that increase mission effectiveness include presentation of contour lines, slope shading, dynamic elevation banding, threat inter-visibility, cultural features, variable scaling, and overlays. The TAMMAC map allows the aircrew to display fire support coordination measures, vertical obstructions, and Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) information. There are several variants of the TAMMAC Map Operational Flight Program (OFP) to accommodate differing hardware. Boeing and the U.S. Navy selected Harris for the TAMMAC map program. The TAMMAC map currently flies on the FA-18C/D, FA-18E/F and EA-18G of the Navy; the CH-47F of the Army; the AH-1Z, AV-8B and UH-1Y of the Marine Corp; the EH-101 of Denmark/Italy; the CF-18 A/B of Canada; and on the FA-18A/B of Australia.
