Precision Farming

Imagery is normally employed for three primary purposes in the farming industry:

• Crop Assessment—Determination of the status of a crop (where is it located, how much, what type, etc.).

• Management and Intervention—Management decisions within the growing season based upon the information extracted including crop stress, water distribution, disease, etc.
• Remediation—Using imagery-derived information to alter growing strategy either before or after a growing season, e.g., soil analysis to determine mineral leaching and optimal crop type for that soil.

Utilities/Telecommunications

Allows utilities and telecommunication providers to solve complex problems including identification of exposed power grids and optimum placement of wireless communications.

Government

GIS/GPS/RS applications allow governments to collect and examine data on traffic flows, population growth, economy, tax rates, voting participation and much more. This information allows governments to make better decisions concerning tax adjustments, zoning, voting precinct boundaries and new road construction. The defense and intelligence use imagery for target mapping and strategic planning.

Urban Planning/Real Estate

Facilitates identification of urban infrastructure to permit urban planners and real estate companies to show the correlation of roads, police and fire, shopping, and recreation in an area.
