Information Access Service (IAS)
IAS is part of the National Geospatial-imagery Agency's (NGA's) National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSGI), which serves as a key component in the war against terrorism by providing warfighters and the intelligence community with accurate and current imagery and other geospatial intelligence information. NSGI is a worldwide network of data collection, data holdings, and specialized analysis toolsets, all supported by a confederation of systems developed by multiple contractors located throughout the U.S.

The Harris IAS provides several critical components of the NSGI, including Client 2001, a powerful data access and retrieval tool that operates much like a Web-based search engine for imagery and intelligence data. IAS presently supports thousands of users and enables the warfighter and intelligence analyst to quickly locate and retrieve information needed to perform their mission, even across distributed and dissimilar data holdings.

IAS was one of the first programs at Harris' government business to achieve the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Module® (CMM®) Level 3 designation. The program also has been used as a model within NGA for project control, with IAS documentation and management tools used in NGA’s project management training. IAS engineering processes, such as system performance engineering, also have been upheld as best practices among NGA programs.
