Large Aperture Multi-band Deployable Antenna (LAMDA)

Providing Field Units with a Highly Mobile, Large Aperture Tri-Band Antenna

The Large Aperture Multi-band Deployable Antenna (LAMDA) is an enhanced version of the field proven Lightweight High Gain X-band Antenna (LHGXA). The LHGXA (AS-4429D/TSC) is a rugged, highly mobile tactical antenna being produced for deployment and operation by military personnel worldwide. The LAMDA’s primary function is to provide tactical warfighters with a highly mobile, user-friendly, large aperture tri-band (C-, X-, and Ku-band) antenna that will withstand the rigors of a harsh operational environment. The LAMDA supports tri-band operations by utilizing interchangeable antenna feeds that can be rapidly installed by operators in the field environment.

The LAMDA incorporates a 4.9-meter (16-foot) diameter reflector mounted on an HMMWV towable trailer. The <4,200-pound system is transportable for world-wide military operations. LAMDA utilizes hightly efficient offset-fed optics that meet sidelobe requirements as specified in CCIR 580-2. Adherence to stringent reflector surface accuracy requirements during the production process allows for DISA/Intelsat certified tri-band operation with superior RF performance. LAMDA operates with DSCS, WGS, NATO, Skynet, XTAR, and Intelsat satellite constellations. Adherence to stringent environmental requirements such as rail impact, Munson Road, shock and vibration, and fixed/rotary wing transportability requirements have been achieved via continuous strength to weight optimization trade-offs that were performed throughout the development process. Other LAMDA features include:

  • A waveguide dehydrator, transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) filtering, a junction box, cabling, and other ancillary equipment necessary to support mission critical tactical deployments.

  • Soft-side  transport cases for feeds and a locker for included tools and accessories.

  • Rugged, yet lightweight outer panels allow a three-person crew to set up or teardown the antenna in less than 45 minutes.

  • Transport aircraft roll-on/roll-off capability enhances rapid deployment for worldwide operations.

  • Quick disconnect waveguide flanges at the base of the feed boom allow flexible mounting of an optional tri-band High Power Amplifier (HPA).

  • Other available options include a trailer-mounted Antenna Control Unit (ACU); off-the-shelf hard cases for feeds, HPA mounting kit, and cover tarp. See individual product specifications in datasheets shown below.

  • Validated technical manual with most parts and spares available by NSN number along with a fully supported DoD logistics stream.

LAMDA is a high performance, highly mobile, lightweight, large aperture tactical antenna solution designed to meet demanding mission requirements. Most importantly, LAMDA provides enhanced operational flexibility, greater mission data rates, improved link reliability, and significant user life-cycle cost savings.
