Expanded Data Transfer Unit (EDTU)

Expanded Data Transfer Unit (EDTU) Overview

The combat proven Expanded Data Transfer Unit (EDTU) is installed on the AH-64D Apache helicopter. The EDTUs provide essential mission management data inputs for the mission display processors including digital map storage. In addition, updated mission data is stored back onto the removable cards in flight for later analysis and update. The EDTU has four PCMCIA card slots and accepts Type I, II, and III PC cards in any combination.

The EDTU utilizes the standard FAT 16/32 file system, permitting data storage and retrieval by standard ground computers as well. The unit is powered by 28 Vdc and integrates dual independent, 1 gigabit per second fibre channel (wire) interfaces using TCP/IP as the upper-level protocol. The EDTU is fully qualified and has been fielded on the AH-64D since 2003.
