The F-22 Raptor is designed as a multimission fighter, with a first ever combination of stealth, high-speed, agility, and integrated avionics. It replaces the U.S. Air Force’s F-15 Eagle, providing the U.S. and its coalition partners with assured air dominance of the battle space. As a key supplier to the F-22 program, Harris is responsible for the fighter’s high-speed fiber-optic network components and for its flight test Data Acquisition Unit (DAU). Harris has been a major supplier of advanced avionics for the Raptor program since 1991. These products include the Fiber-Optic Transmitters and Receivers (FOTR) used for high-bandwidth point-to-point data transmission and the High-Speed Data Bus (HSDB) multichip optical modules used for processor-to-processor communications. Harris provides the FOTR Network Interface Unit (FNIU), offering four channels of fiber-optic communications in a single SEM-E size module. Harris also provides advanced avionics and common components to other major aircraft such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
