Antenna Testing Facilities

PIM Antenna Test Facility

Harris' Anechoic Test Facility has been successfully qualified for PIM (Passive Intermodulation) testing of large deployable mesh reflector antennas (up to 30 meters). The versatile design of the chamber, staging area, and control room allows it to be reconfigured for a variety of test and equipment layouts.

Anechoic Chambers

The Anechoic Chambers were designed and fabricated to have the excellent RF characteristics required for the testing of sensitive subsystems during payload or spacecraft tests. Our proprietary design, fabrication and specialized testing of the facility has resulted in a "PIM-free" test environment allowing measurements down to the system noise floor level (-155 dBm).

Typical chamber features include:
  • 24" pyramidal absorbers throughout with an extensive gridwork of walk-on absorbers for easy personnel access
  • Unique wall and ceiling constructions provide high ambient RF isolation in a PIM-free environment
  • PIM-free light enclosures, air supply/return and floor design
  • 5-tonhoist in center opening
  • Floor feed trough between chamber, control room and staging area equipped with specialty power (conditioned), fiber-optic, data and phone lines
  • Cable chases for phone, data, power and more between chamber and ceiling tray
  • Chamber access: 2-10' wide x 30' high swing doors and three personnel access doors
  • Meet Class 100,000 clean room requirements

The staging areas provide the following typical features:
  • Outside access foor: 20' wide by 30' high roll-up plus personnel access doors
  • Specialty AC power outlets
  • Floor fee trough access to chamber for STE and check-out stations
  • Common grund bus system with chamber for ESD sensitive equipment

Control Room Typical Features:
  • Personnel access doors to staging area and chamber
  • Specialty AC power outlets and conditioned power (12kVA)
  • Floor feed trough access to chamber for STE and check-out stations
  • Common ground bus system with chamber for ESD sensitive equipment
  • Remote computer-controlled equipment console using fiber-optic link adaptable to STE and controller using HP-VEE software
  • Personnel warning monitoring systems during high power RF tests
